KIDS MINISTRY
At Northwood, we believe you are never too young to step into God’s story for your life. We want to partner with your family as we share with your kids God and His love for them! You can be confident that while in our care, your child will be loved and cared for by competent and caring individuals. All of our volunteers must pass rigorous background checks. The secure check-in and check-out procedure ensures only you can go home with your child. If your child becomes ill or is inconsolable, you will be instantly notified through our paging system in the Worship Center. No matter which service you attend on Sunday morning, there is a place for your child to come have fun and hear about Jesus. Here is what to expect while they’re in Kid’s Ministry.
Sunday Mornings at 9:30am & 11:00am
We believe that no child is too young to experience and learn about God’s love. Loving teachers and caregivers help children develop a basic foundation of faith through simple Bible points, music, and a wide variety of multi-sensory learning activities.
Sunday Mornings at 9:30am & 11:00am
By Preschool, our children are beginning to have a grasp of the world around them, and are able to further understand the God who created them. We use age-appropriate crafts and activities, along with group teaching to lead the children to better Biblical understanding. Your child will have the opportunity to attend an age-appropriate worship time where they will sing and dance to fun worship music and learn important Biblical principles.
Sunday Mornings at 9:30am & 11:00am
We believe that church should be fun! Our goal is simple. We want kids to have a blast while they encounter God through worship, reading God’s Word, and building friendships with one another. Your child is sure to meet caring coaches who desire to share God’s love, mentor them in the Scripture, and even play silly games with them. We assure you that we take the spiritual enrichment of each child very seriously!
Every parent knows that things change when their child becomes a Preteen! They are beginning to think for themselves. They experiment with who they want to be. They question what they’ve always accepted as truth and are able see things from a different angle. They may even begin to question their faith, and might experience some doubt and uncertainty about things they have previously believed to be true. While these changes can cause fear and resistance in some but at Northwood we view these questions and changes as a wonderful opportunity. Our Preteen Ministry takes a deeper dive into many Bible stories they’ve already heard but need to unpack and discover the deeper meaning behind these stories and how that can impact their day to day decisions. We offer many opportunities for our Preteens to grow in their faith and in community with one another.
Sunday Morning Classes
Our Sunday morning classes are during both the 9:30 and 11:00 service time in room 250. Not only is this an intentional time of study & discipleship, but it also offers hang out and friend making time with their fellow 5th and 6th graders.
Wednesday Nights
Our Preteens participate in our Glocal Kids program on Wednesday nights. Learn more about this program on the “Glocal Kids” tab.
Preteen Retreats
Retreats are a great opportunity for 5th & 6th graders to come together and focus in on growing their relationship with Christ and strengthening community with one another. Retreats are led by our Northwood Staff and fully vetted volunteers to ensure a safe and fun environment to learn and serve. We offer these opportunities every semester. To learn more about upcoming retreat options be sure to speak to our Kid’s Pastor, Diana Kerby to make sure you’re included in updates about our Preteen Ministry.
Sunday Mornings at 9:30am & 11:00am
Our Kid’s Ministry is also fully equipped to serve kids of all ages and ability levels. The Joy Zone is a special area inside our Kid’s Building where children with special care needs are invited to experience the love of Jesus through engaging activities designed specifically for them. We are always thinking up ways we can better serve those with special needs and their families. To learn more about what Northwood offers visit out Multi-Ability Ministry Page.
Wednesday Nights at 6:15pm – 7:45pm
It’s all about learning to live and love like Jesus by serving others. Kids will have a blast learning about serving others through the overflow of God’s love. With a variety of guest speakers we will be introduced to different communities or people groups. During class, Kids will have fun hands-on activities that will support the serving efforts highlighted each week. Glocal Kids classes will be divided by age groups:
• 4’s & 5’s
• 1st & 2nd grades
• 3rd & 4th grades
• 5th & 6th grades (Preteen Gathering)
It is our goal to educate, practice serving, and encourage Kids to use their skills and passions to share God’s love wherever they are. Note: Kids under the age of 4 may attend Wednesday night childcare if the parent is participating in one of our Northwood Wednesday night activities (serving, groups, classes, etc.)
