Round up the kids and get into the Christmas spirit by joining us on Friday, December 9, for Journey to the Manger. In this interactive experience, children and adults alike will by captivated by the sights, sounds, and smells of that first Christmas when Jesus was born in the stable.

This is a free event for the whole family to enjoy. Hot cocoa and cookies will be served, and fire pits will keep everyone one warm and toasty.  Bring your family and friends and hang out, while kids enjoy snacks and a petting zoo.  The Journey begins at 6:00 at the Shed and on the adjacent fields.  Festivities end at 8:30 pm.

Academy at West Birdville Christmas Shopping Party

November 14th, 2011

Who doesn’t love Christmas?  And parties?  And shopping?  Okay, men, this time it’s for a really great cause — the Academy at West Birdville Christmas Shopping Party.  Each year, NorthWood families donate gifts that are wrapped and ready to be chosen by the Academy kids as Christmas gifts for their family members.  These underprivileged children do not have the resources to be able to give gifts to their parents and siblings, so this special Christmas party gives them the opportunity to experience the joy of giving.  It’s a blessing to both the Academy student and his family.

You can be a part of this wonderful holiday event.  As you are out doing your Christmas shopping, don’t forget to pick up a little extra something to share with the kids at AWB.  Gifts should be brand new and cost no more than $10. Please select your gifts based on the ages and gender of your own children:

  • Birth -4 yr olds:  Gift items for adults such as cologne, perfume, costume jewelry, stationery, socks, kitchen gadgets, wallets or tools.
  • 5 years-2nd Grade:  Gift items for children birth to 10 years old
  • 3rd-4th Grade:  Gift items for children 11 to 18 years old (sports balls are a great option)
  • Preteens:   Monetary donations to cover the cost of the food and supplies for the actual event
  • No children or older children: Any of the above

You can teach your children the joy of giving by allowing them to help select the gifts.  They’ll have fun and you will, too.  Gift collection is November 20 – December 4.  Drop your gifts off in a designated box in the Chapel Foyer or in the Children’s Building.

Turkey Bowl V

November 7th, 2011

“Football is like life, it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.” – Vince Lombardi

It’s Turkey Bowl time again at NorthWood Church.  This year, we’re changing it up a bit for Turkey Bowl V.

When you register your team for Turkey Bowl, you’ll be supporting two soccer teams from the Birla Orphanage. While you’re having fun throwing around the pigskin, you’ll make it possible for the orphans we support to play their own games including providing transportation, equipment and uniforms.

But that’s not all that’s in it for you.  You’ll also get the official Turkey Bowl V T-Shirt and lots of free stuff!

So convince your schools all-star standouts to be a part of your team and come compete for the glory of being crowned Turkey Bowl champs!  If you’re team is made up of Middle Schoolers, you’ll be play on Saturday, November 12, at the Watauga Recreation Center.  And if you’ve got a high school team, you’ll play Saturday, November 19, at Central High School.

Celebrate Community-November 12

October 31st, 2011

NorthWood has a long history of serving The Academy of West Birdville and its students.  One of the highlights of our work in Haltom City each year is the Fall Festival.  This year’s Fall Festival will celebrate all that we’ve done in partnership with these families through the Home Makeover and Building Community projects and will be called “Celebrate Community.”

You can have the privilege of serving at  this wonderful neighborhood event.  By volunteering, you’ll allow students and their families to have fun while getting important health and social services they usually don’t have the opportunity to receive.

Whether bring a smile to a child’s face as they play games or making sure everyone has a fantastic time, you help is needed.  Sign up to have so much fun and serve by clicking the registration link above.  Click here to register.
