Report from the Field – Mexico Mission Trip

Posted on July 22nd, 2010.

We received the following update from our team in Mexico:

Our group of 9 made it to Puebla and Cholula safe and sound on Saturday – Praise God! Two-thirds of our group were on this trip last year so there´s a lot of familiarity with each other. Saturday is a dedicated travel day. We got to the hotel around 6 or so, ate some delicious enchiladas verdes at a restaurant on the square in Cholula and then called it a night.

We were delighted to join a Downingtown, PA group who are down here doing VBS at Alto Refugio orphanage, at the Roca Eterna Church on Sunday morning. We´re thankful that Osciala was translating over the headsets so we could understand the guest pastor. After that it was back to the hotel to change clothes, back to Puebla for lunch at Taco Tony´s and then shopping at the village square. We then headed back to the hotel to begin planning for tomorrow’s activity.

After loading up some tools at the missionary’s (Basilles) house we got to the orphanage around 9:30 or 10. Our main projects this year are some additional shelving, retaining wall and building a large playground area that will tie-in to the zip line that we didn´t have time to finish last year. There´s always some additional projects added so we welcome those whether here at the orphanage or anywhere else.

We´ve all noticed that it has rained a bit more than last year. That might have to do with the fact that we are here 3 weeks earlier than last year. Anyway, after a productive first day at the orphanage we feel good about the work God has given us to do and are thankful to be here.
