Mexico Team is Making a Difference!

Posted on July 23rd, 2010.

Here’s another update from our team in Puebla, Mexico:

The work is progressing well at Alto Refugio. We are enjoying seeing, interacting, and loving on the kids. The pieces of the playground are finally coming together.

As with any construction project, we’ve had our fair share of challenges. The weather has been our biggest challenge. We came 3 weeks earlier than last year and we must be in the rainy season. It’s rained every day except Wednesday.  We’re becoming very good at working in and around mud! Another challenge is that a group of masons are building a retaining wall right next to where we are building the playground. We’re having to share a narrow space with their big rocks.  Another challenge we had yesterday is when we were digging out the foundation for the A-frame footings we hit a gas line. That called for a trench to be built so the plumber could reinstall a new gas line. However, through all of the challenges God has been faithful in allowing our work to progress. It’s a great asset when all of our team members are willing to do anything and everything that’s asked. Tracy Middleton has done an incredible job of leading the team as always.

We’re looking forward to attaching all of the pieces today to the core structure so the playground is complete. We’re also planning on buying some mulch to keep the area as clean as possible. Hopefully the rain won’t interfere with the project.

After lunch we’re serving the kids ice cream and then handing out some gifts we’ve brought. It ought to be a great day to a fantastic week.
